Journey to Emmaus

Flavour of the Day

My Emmaus Journey (Luke 24: 13-35)

I had the privilege to journey with Christ and two of his disciples on their way to Emmaus last week together with 13 bishops, 31 priests, 7 religious and 45 youth ministers from 19 Asian countries.

The Emmaus walk was an awakening of my faith journey. It was a very humbling experience for me and more importantly, my eyes were opened to the understanding of holy vs. holey.

“Holiness” is not about putting on a serious look and do nothing but pray all the time. Instead, it is to be truly yourself and carrying out God’s will in you including the courage to speak the truth and to stand up as His witness.

“Holey” on the other hand is the recognition of my own inadequacy – the many holes present in my life that need to be filled up through learning, persevering and conversion. It is a reminder for me not to be “complacent” which will direct me away instead of moving me nearer to Jerusalem.

The Emmaus Journey is my relationship with Jesus. I desire to relive this walk as often as I can, so as to sharpen my faith formation like knowing when to slow down and when to speed up so that I am always at the right pace with Jesus... well, more or less. ;P
