Musings of a Catechist

So often we tell ourselves that we must carry out our responsibilities as Catechists in catechising our teens (or children) that we often forget about our own spiritual needs and struggles in faith.

No one can say they have got everything down pat in terms of faith. Faith isn’t something we call upon to suit our ideas of what is right and wrong. Faith is a gift that calls us. It constantly puts us where we don’t want to be – it challenges our way of seeing things, of thinking, of living.

There is one thing I’ve learnt in this journey so far (learning never stops until you’ve reached the real journey’s end, by the way):

1. God loves me – in spite of and despite who I am – ‘cause I am His.
2. God calls me to put myself on the line – even though it’s the last thing I want to do or it’s the last place where I want to be.
3. God wants me to love – to care in big stuff or small.
4. Life is short – live it like it is.
5. Laugh! Especially at myself. Life is strange, silly, weird, sad, trying, infuriating and sometimes downright stupid but it should never be bland.
6. I am entitled to be weak, silly and to make mistakes at certain times. But I should never dwell on these times or continue to punish myself. Learn and move on.
